Meditation
‘Prayer is when you talk to God; meditation is when you listen to God’.
                                                                                                              - Diana Robinson
What is meditation?

Meditation is the Silent state of mind. When the mind is silent, concentration is increased and we experience inner peace in the midst of worldly turmoil. This elusive inner peace is what attracts so many people to meditation and is a quality everyone can benefit from.

The conscious mind chatters to us all the time except when we sleep. It reminds us about the bills, it judges other people's actions, and it creates our doubts, guilt, fears and drives us to survive in this rat race material world. It never seems to quit. Its constant noise has become so dominant that it drowns out another more powerful mind that we also have– ‘the super conscious mind’. Through that second mind, we can know all we need to, because it has direct access to the divine. All we have to do is quiet the chattering mind and a whole new world will open up for us. A world we have forgotten.

Meditation is not only very important for our spiritual growth; it sustains us through the experience of remembering who we really are. That is Beings of Divine Light.

What are the Benefits?

The benefits of meditation have been known for many thousands of years and are now starting to become accepted as a viable means to heal the body and heal the mind. There have been studies done that prove that a patient who uses meditation can reduce the healing time after surgery and also improve their chances of combating almost any illness. By doing regular meditation we get less bothered by little things. It is the nature of the mind to magnify small things into serious problems. Meditation helps us detach. We learn to live in the here and now, rather than worrying about the past or future. We do not worry about meaningless things, but see the bigger picture.

Meditation reduces stress levels and alleviates anxiety. If we can reduce stress, many health benefits follow. Meditation enables us to have a deeper understanding of our inner self and to gain a better understanding of our life’s purpose. Some other benefits of meditation are:-

Improved understanding, concentration, creativity & productivity.
Changed perception and development of the psychic senses.
We understand our Un-limitedness and are able to understand Death and Beyond.
We become blissful at all times and in all situations.

How to do Meditation?

Sit in a comfortable and a stable posture either on the floor or on the chair. Cross your legs and clasp your fingers and now close your eyes and stop any inner or outer chatter. When we cross our legs and clasp our fingers, energy circuit is formed around us which gives us more stability. Mantra chanting or any chattering inner or outer are the activities of the mind so it should be stopped .When our body relaxes, the consciousness travels to the level of mind and intellect. There are numerous thoughts always coming to the surface of the mind and whenever there are thoughts in the mind we make many questions known or unknown to transcend the mind and intellect. One has to observe the breath. Observation is the nature of the self so one should witness the breath. Don’t do conscious breathing, don’t inhale or exhale consciously. Inhalation or exhalation happens on its own. Just observe normal breathing which is the main key. Don’t run behind the thoughts, don’t think of queries, cut them and come back to the breath. By observing normal breathing the density of thoughts reduces slowly and the breath becomes thinner and shorter. Finally breath becomes smallest and appears like flash between eyebrows. In this state one will have no breath and no thought. One will be totally thoughtless. This state is called Nirmal stithi or no thought state and is the correct meditative state. This thoughtless state brings the shower of cosmic energy. The more meditation one does the more cosmic energy one receives.
